Edinburgh Half Marathon

About the Edinburgh Half Marathon print

The Edinburgh Half Marathon starts on Potterrow beneath McEwan Hall and heads straight into the Old Town. It passes Greyfriars Bobby, crosses the Royal Mile between St Giles' Cathedral and Edinburgh Castle and runs through Princes Street Gardens, then goes past the Scottish Parliament and Holyrood Park on its way out of the city.

From there the course turns east along Portobello promenade to Prestonpans and back, before finishing on the playing fields of Pinkie School in Musselburgh. It is a net-downhill route, dropping almost 90 m to near sea level, and our trace of the 2025 course records about 100 m of climbing along the way.

That journey from the Old Town to the coast gives the poster a clear sense of direction, with the city at one end and the shore at the other. Add your race date and finish time, and it becomes a record of your own half marathon, from the first steps under McEwan Hall to the finish in Musselburgh.

Put your Edinburgh half on the wall.

Personalise the route with your title, race date and finish time.
