Route Into Art

Frequently asked questions

Answers to the practical questions people check before creating a personalised route print.

Creating a route print

What do I upload?

Upload a GPX file from the activity or route you want to turn into artwork. GPX is the best format for preserving the shape of the route.

Which apps can work?

Routes exported from Strava, Garmin, Komoot, and other apps can work if they provide a valid GPX file. Strava Connect may also appear as an import option in the editor.

Can I preview before paying?

Yes. The editor creates an artwork proof before checkout so you can check the route, title, date, and stats first.

Can I edit the print text?

Yes. You can edit the title, subtitle, date, and route stat labels before ordering.

Getting a GPX file

How do I download a GPX from Strava?

Use the Strava website in a browser on your phone or desktop, not the Strava mobile app. The GPX export option is available on the website, but not in the native app.

  1. Sign in to Strava in a web browser and open the activity or saved route you want to use.
  2. For your own activity, open the more menu and choose Export GPX. For a public saved route, use the download arrow and choose GPX.
  3. Save the .gpx file to your phone or computer, then upload it in Route Into Art.

Own activity

Look for the more menu on the activity page, then choose Export GPX.

Saved or public route

Open the route on the Strava website and use the download arrow, then choose GPX.

How do I download a GPX from Garmin Connect?

Use the Garmin Connect website in a browser on your phone or desktop, not the Garmin Connect mobile app. The GPX export menu is available on the website, but not in the native app.

  1. Sign in to Garmin Connect in a web browser.
  2. Go to Activities, then All Activities, and open the activity you want to use.
  3. Use the settings gear in the top-right corner and choose Export to GPX.
  4. Save the downloaded .gpx file to your phone or computer, then upload it in Route Into Art.

Garmin Connect activity

Open the activity details page and use the settings gear in the top-right corner.

Should I use an activity or a planned route?

Use the completed activity if you want the artwork to match the route you actually travelled. A planned route or course can also work if it exports a GPX with the route line included.
