About the Chicago Marathon print
The Chicago Marathon starts and finishes in Grant Park, and in between it threads through 29 of the city's neighbourhoods. It is a course that shows the whole city rather than one corner of it.
The modern race dates from 1977, when it was first run as the Mayor Daley Marathon. With about 10 m of climbing on our trace, the course is largely flat, and it is a place where history gets made: Kelvin Kiptum set a world record of 2:00:35 here in 2023, and Ruth Chepngetich ran a women's world record of 2:09:56 in 2024.
