Scafell Pike, at 978 m, is the highest mountain in England. The shortest way up starts at the National Trust car park at Wasdale Head, by the end of Wastwater, and climbs beside Lingmell Gill into the rocky bowl of Hollow Stones.
Above Hollow Stones the path climbs to the col below Lingmell, then crosses the boulder field to the summit cairn, with views to the Isle of Man on a clear day. It is about 4.2 km each way. The ready-made route runs one way, from Wasdale to the summit. Add the date of your walk, and the print keeps your own climb of England's highest mountain.
