Route Into Art

Privacy notice

This notice summarises the personal data Route Into Art uses to create artwork previews, process orders, provide support, and improve the service.

Information we collect

Route data

When you add a route, we extract the route line and basic route details needed to create the artwork preview. GPX uploads are deleted after processing; we do not keep unrelated GPX metadata.

Strava Connect

If you connect Strava, we store your Strava athlete ID and encrypted access tokens so we can list recent activities and import the route stream you choose. We mark the connection inactive if Strava tells us access was deauthorized, if tokens stop working, or if we manually revoke unused access.

Map coverage requests

If a route is outside our current map coverage, we may record the approximate route bounds and inferred area so we can decide where to expand coverage next. If you ask to be notified, we store your email address with that area until the request is handled or no longer needed.

Artwork details

We retain the selected title, subtitle, date, print size, artwork style, route geometry, map bounds, and route stats needed to regenerate the preview and fulfil an order.

Order details

Checkout and fulfilment may involve contact, shipping, product, payment-status, tracking, and order-status information.

Emailed designs and requested reminders

If you choose ‘Save for later’ and then ‘Email my design link’, we send a private return link, a reminder 24 hours after we send the link and a last reminder about 3 days after it, unless you buy the design or cancel the reminders. The last reminder is not sent if you have unsubscribed from our emails. You can close the email dialog without making this request. The link restores your live editable design across devices until the end of the fourth day after you ask (30 days for links requested before 18 October 2026); anyone you share it with can edit that design. The optional offers checkbox starts unchecked. Only ticking it asks for offers and news; leaving it unticked does not subscribe you or change earlier marketing preferences. Email fields are masked in replay, and return-link and preference pages do not use analytics or session replay.

Similar-print marketing

We keep marketing permission separate from a requested design reminder. After a verified purchase, we may email you about our own similar prints if you saw the collection notice and did not choose No marketing emails when you ordered. You can refuse or unsubscribe without affecting your purchase. An earlier unsubscribe remains in force; saving again does not reverse it. We retain the minimum permission, refusal and suppression evidence needed to honour these choices.

Promotional offers

When you follow an offer link, we keep its code in this tab's session storage for up to 24 hours so it can be applied when you reach checkout. The code is removed from the page address after capture. You can remove the offer in the editor. Stripe checks redemption rules and the order records the offer actually used. This functional preference works independently of optional analytics cookies.

Support messages

If you contact us, we use the information you provide to investigate and respond.

Analytics and advertising measurement

We may collect privacy-conscious product analytics to understand page usage, route import success, checkout starts, and service reliability. With optional cookies on, we may also use advertising measurement tags to understand whether ads lead to checkout starts or orders, and analytics, including session replay, to understand how people navigate the site, identify usability problems and improve the service. In the UK, EU and EEA, optional cookies and session replay start only after you accept them. Elsewhere they are on by default, and you can switch them off at any time in Cookie preferences in the footer. Session replay can show your artwork preview, route and personalisation choices, including any names or dedications you add to the artwork. Contact, shipping and payment details, private gift messages and support form contents are masked or excluded.

Advertising partners

Our advertising measurement partners are Meta (Facebook and Instagram), Google and Reddit. With optional cookies on, Meta's and Google's tags run on our pages. When you pay, our server also tells these partners about the order: its value, what was bought, our order or gift reference, and the cookie or ad-click identifiers they set, plus a page address and your browser details for Meta and Reddit, and your IP address for Meta. Meta also receives the same kind of server message when you start a checkout. We do not send them your name, email address, delivery address or artwork. They use this to tell whether one of their ads led to your visit or order, and they may process it in the United States under their own data transfer safeguards. Rejecting optional cookies, or withdrawing consent in Cookie preferences, stops this for future visits and orders.

Catalogue route demand

When route-demand collection is enabled, we record settled searches in the ready-made route picker, the number of results shown, and deliberate choices of public catalogue routes. We use these records to understand which routes people look for and choose, and where catalogue search needs improvement. They are not linked in our route-demand table to a customer profile, order, gift, device or analytics identity. We filter obvious contact details, links and access tokens from search records, but a search may still contain personal information. Collection is currently subject to a separate policy approval before activation.

How we use information

We use information to provide the route print editor, generate artwork, process orders, deliver digital files, support customers, prevent abuse, and improve Route Into Art.

Processing basis for email choices

We use your requested design email and reminder to provide the service you ask for. We use legitimate interests for similar-print marketing to customers who did not refuse it when they ordered, and consent for affirmative marketing opt-ins. We use legitimate interests to prevent abuse and keep refusals, unsubscribe and bounce/complaint suppression effective. You may object to marketing at any time.

Who handles information

Route Into Art may use service providers for checkout, fulfilment, storage, analytics, advertising measurement, hosting, and customer support. These providers only receive information needed for their part of the service.

Retention

Raw GPX uploads are temporary and deleted after parsing. Strava import sessions are short lived, and inactive Strava connections stop being counted toward Strava access. Individual catalogue route-demand records are kept for no more than 365 days, subject to a shorter approved period. Order, artwork, support, fulfilment, and map-availability records are kept for as long as needed to provide the service, handle customer support, meet legal obligations, improve map coverage, and protect the business.

Saved design emails

Private return links expire at the end of the fourth day after your request, or 30 days after it for links requested before 18 October 2026. We remove the saved email request and private email payload after a further 90-day support window. We keep a minimal hashed recipient record of refusal and delivery suppression to avoid contacting you again against your wishes; necessary order records follow their separate retention policy.

Your choices

You can withdraw optional analytics consent at any time using Cookie preferences in the footer and choosing Reject non-essential. This stops optional analytics and session replay; it does not delete information already collected. Catalogue route-demand collection remains disabled until its separate policy, transparency and applicable choices are approved and implemented. Use the contact form if you have a privacy question or want help with information connected to an order. You can also revoke Route Into Art access from your Strava account settings.
